Board of Directors Guidelines

The following guidelines highlight the primary duties and responsibilities of the members of the Board of Directors.  Please note that these guidelines are supplemental to the By-laws.  In general, Board members must:

  • Attend and participate in Board and committee meetings and other organization functions.  All Board members “are expected to attend at least 75% of all meetings,” (Article VI, Section 4).  IN addition, members are expected to volunteer for at least ½ day during the Festival of Gardening and other special events.
  • Be well informed about the mission, programs and policies of Columbia Green. Review and be knowledgeable about membership information, history, by-laws, projects and special events so as to be an informed Board of Directors.
  • Review Board meeting minutes, agenda and other materials prior to Board meetings so as to be informed discussant.
  • Actively serve as a committee(s) and carry out assignments as necessary to insure the success of activities and operations.
  • Financially support Columbia Green through annual contributions and membership.-Seek financial contributions fro like-minded individuals businesses and organizations to support Columbia Green’s mission.
  • Review financial statements and manage resources responsibly.
  • Nominate for appointment prospective Board members who can make a positive contribution to the organization and its objectives.
  • Be aware of potential conflict of interest issues and inform the Board if/when any exist.
