Because Life Should Be Beautiful

The front yard of this home always puts on a show during azalea season, but it’s in the backyard where the creativity really shines.  Bill and Carreen Frew invite you to join the friends and neighbors who often pass through their gate to pick a sprig of fresh herbs or find a fresh vegetable or two.  Even the birds are welcome…the weeping yaupon holly is an avian salad bar when the berries are on the tree.

Observe the lovely combination of hardscape and soft elements in this garden.  It’s easy to imagine yourself with a cup of coffee, the fire pit for warmth and the music of the three attractive fountains as entertainment.  A backdrop of Japanese maples and evergreens and plantings of daylilies and annuals has been so skillfully placed that you may find it hard to believe an elementary school playground is only a few feet away.  Take a look in the pristine garage and you will find the original drawings for the garden, tweaked a bit here and there.

There’s a practical element here as well.  In addition to the abundant (and neighbor-friendly) vegetable garden, note Bill’s latest interest…the espaliered berries on the wall and the planter bags of tomatoes, peppers and strawberries near the back door.  It’s easy to imagine the occupants of the grandchildren’s bench enjoying these succulent and healthy treats.  Since the gate is always open and the Frews so generous, we think the people on this block may be some of the healthiest in Spring Valley.

The Frews claim that they wanted their garden design to reflect a place of comfort and relaxation…a resort-like getaway that doesn’t demand complicated vacation plans.  You’ll be tempted to book a reservation!
