Columbia Canal….
Introduce Yourself to the Fall Line

Columbia Green continues celebrating its 25th Anniversary year by teaming with local museums, historic sites and cultural agencies to host "Canalapalooza", an exploration and celebration of the Columbia Canal and Fall Line, and its past, present and future impact on our community. Joining us in this event will be the City of Columbia, Historic Columbia Foundation, the SC State Museum and USC's McKissick Museum.

The event will run from 1-5 p.m. and will feature guided tours, exhibits from local museums, ecology and conservation groups, historical societies and recreational outfitters. You and your family can walk, run, skate, bicycle, or push a stroller along the route of the Columbia Canal and learn about the history, ecology, geography and future of this city treasure.  If lounging is more your idea of a Sunday afternoon event, we'll provide a grassy space for you to bond with your picnic basket and watch the fun.

Speakers at the Park's amphitheater will include John Nelson from USC's Herbarium; John Bryan, talking about Robert Mills, designer of the original canal (who you might just see strolling through the area); and David Brinkman from the recent PBS History Detectives show featuring the bridge over the Broad River.

There will be music, discounted tickets to use at the State Museum's new Fall Line exhibition, and transportation along the canal walk for those who prefer to ride.  Hang out at the park or travel the length of the canal to check out that fish ladder.  Admission is free to Columbia Green's annual autumn educational present to the city.  Read more.
