Columbia Green ends year with record grant levels
Columbia Green tightened its financial belt in 2009 and managed to increase its spending on beautification projects last year even though donations and membership levels remained flat.
Columbia Green spent nearly $42,000 on beautification projects throughout the Columbia area, a 13 percent increase over the previous year. During 2009, Columbia Green:
- Continued to support the Historic Columbia Foundation's Seibels garden by completing a pledge of another $15,000;
- Brightened a dozen medians throughout the city with $10,000 worth of annuals;
- Funded last year's neighborhood grant awards for landscaping projects at locations ranging from St. Peter's Catholic Church landscaping to Hand Middle School and Richland Two's Center of Inquiry student undertakings;
- Held two educational events - a tree workshop and a celebration of the Columbia Canal.
- Held the popular Festival of Gardens, showcasing private gardens in the Forest Hills and Tanglewood neighborhoods.
